The Scented Kitchen: A Coffee Snob’s Guide to the Best Pumpkin Spice Creamer (with Minimal Ingredients!)

My parents were big coffee drinkers. They drank their morning pot over breakfast, then another pot mid-morning. If the family was out together Mom and Dad would always want to stop for coffee. My brother and I knew it wouldn’t do any good to protest. They’d get their coffee, and we’d get soda. Slurp!! Our sodas would be gone in minutes, and they’d still be working on their first cup! Coffee refills were still free in those days. Argh!! Thus, I developed a prejudice against coffee and determined never to drink it myself.

Well, that lasted until I was 40 with a hectic schedule and wanted (needed?) that caffeine boost. Enter my foray into enemy territory. Haha!

As time went on, I discovered through trial and error that I prefer a dark roast. Sumatra is my roast of choice. I also found that I preferred it sweetened with some heavy whipped cream, pure stevia and even a little bit of chocolate. If I can’t have that I’d rather not have it at all. So, I guess I went from being anti-coffee to being a coffee snob!

In my journey of coffee discovery, I found I don’t like flavored coffees or flavored creamers. Part of what turns me off commercial creamers is the list of additives in them. So, last year I began perusing Pinterest for a pumpkin coffee creamer with minimal ingredients, because I do love all things pumpkin. Pumpkin pies, muffins, breads, scones – bring it on!

I thought maybe I’d give pumpkin coffee creamer a try in my afternoon coffee. But it seemed like most of the recipes I found also had sweetened condensed milk and I didn’t want that. I stumbled upon a recipe by Julie’s Eats and Treats. It was just what I was looking for! If you make it, please give her some love by leaving a review.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer

I made a batch, let it cool and then called four of my neighbors over to try it with our coffee. One of them brought their little frother and started frothing that homemade creamer. Wow! It had such a smooth texture and pumpkin flavor. All of us enjoyed our afternoon coffee break and decided we’d make another batch since that one barely lasted the afternoon!

Since Autumn brings shorter days, longer nights, and cooler temperatures, consider making a new autumn memory and trying this pumpkin coffee creamer.

To make the most of Autumn, I like diffusing Pumpkin & Spice No-Mess Fragrance Tarts™ in my Belle Aroma ScenTrio Petite™ Wax Warmer. The top notes of this no-mess wax tart are cardamom and almond, the middle notes are nutmeg and clove, and the base notes are cinnamon and pumpkin. Your house can smell and feel like autumn with no mess and no cooking involved!
