The Nostalgic Nose: 5 Ways to Be a Loser

Once a month, I meet with my Bunco* group. We have a meal – usually accompanied by a drink or two - followed by a mindless game of dice with the tantalizing possibility of prizes.

*For those not yet in the know, Bunco is a social game where players take turns rolling three dice in rounds to score points.

The biggest takeaway from this monthly gathering, however, is how much I learn from this group of smart and fun-loving women.

Our lively discussions cover everything from the weather to more meaty topics about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

It’s always worthwhile.

On one particular evening, the conversation landed on a list of things we would like to lose in life. Here is what we came up with:

1.     Lose the coffee

What a conundrum. We need it to get going in the mornings, but our threshold for its caffeination is limited. Too much can give us the jitters and increase anxiety.

One Bunco Babe said she starts the day with coffee, but as her day progresses, she holds a bottle of peppermint essential oil to her nose to inhale for a few seconds…several times. Then she found out her office mate liked that idea, too, so together they now run a tabletop scent diffuser with perky peppermint oil in their office.

2.     Lose the road rage

When 8 million people are trying to get to the same place as you, to bypass the rage, try diffusing an essential oil from the 12-volt charger in your vehicle. It is really effective for feeling less hassled and harried from your commute and arriving relaxed and refreshed.

3.     Lose the crowd

Traveling? At the airport these days you are, for sure, going to do some waiting with a lot of other travelers. Essential oil loaded in a USB port in your laptop emits the benefit of relaxing and transcendent essential oil aromatherapy in your personal space.

4.     Lose the stale air

Not all lodging accommodations are created equal, and sometimes, the air in the room leaves something to be desired. Freshen up the room with a portable essential oil diffuser – just set it and forget it! Choose the earthy scents of all-natural ylang-ylang or clary sage essential oil. Or refresh the room with peppermint, organic sweet orange, or lemongrass essential oil loaded into your battery-powered scent diffuser. Forgot to bring batteries? Just plug it into the USB port in your room or on your laptop.

5.     Lose feeling uptight

For resetting at the end of a hectic day, the Bunco ladies suggest lavender oil in a nebulizer for the purest form of essential oil diffusion. Load your 10 ml bottle of essential oil, choose your settings, and let it run. The best part: you don’t even have to stress about leaving it on, thanks to the automatic shut-off!

Note to self: never miss a Bunco. There is always something refreshing to learn.
