Each guest brought a favorite dish, and I knew exactly what I wanted to share: my mom’s Chili Relleno Pie.
Family Recipe – Chili Relleno Pie
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. hamburger
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 medium onion, diced
- ¼ tsp. oregano
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Salt and pepper
- 1 can (7 oz) green chilies
- ½ lb. Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- ½ lb. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- Sour Cream
Directions:
- Brown hamburger with green pepper, onion, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Seed chili peppers and spread them on the bottom of a square baking dish. (I often use chopped green chilies.)
- Layer with the browned meat and sprinkle with cheeses.
- Combine eggs, half and half, and flour; pour over top.
- Bake 45 minutes at 375°F.
- Pour tomato sauce on top and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Serve with a dollop of sour cream.
Serve warm and enjoy the cozy comfort of fall flavors.
