Scents of Adventure: A Road Trip Detour, 52 Years of Friendship, and a Little Peaceful, Easy Feeling™

Scenic view of downtown Paducah, Kentucky, overlooking the Ohio River at sunset, with historic buildings, colorful autumn trees, and a riverfront skyline captured from an elevated rooftop terrace.

After 52 years of friendship, four of us decided it was time for another adventure together. We'd been planning our four-day getaway to Paducah, Kentucky, for nearly five months. With my SUV freshly serviced, luggage packed, and three of us ready to hit the road, we set off Monday morning to meet our fourth friend in Paducah.

What could possibly go wrong?

As it turned out, quite a bit!

About 100 miles into our journey, I heard a slight bump. Before I could give it much thought, my oil warning light came on and the engine lost power. Thankfully, my hybrid's battery power allowed us to pull safely off the highway.

A quick check revealed the problem: no oil! Apparently, the technician who had recently serviced my SUV hadn't properly secured the oil cap, and we'd lost it all.

One friend arranged for a tow truck, and we settled in for what became a two-and-a-half-hour wait along the highway. Our vehicle eventually had to be towed 92 miles to an approved mechanic in Dexter, Missouri.

Not exactly the adventure we'd envisioned!

A Little Peaceful, Easy Feeling™ Goes a Long Way

Fortunately, I'd packed something special for our vacation rental in Paducah: my Belle Aroma® Aromatherapy Scent Pendant Diffuser, but I decided to use the Peaceful, Easy Feeling Essential Oil Blend in place of the peppermint essential oil it came with.

Since we were going to be sitting in the car for quite some time, I decided there was no reason to wait until Paducah to enjoy it.

What makes the Scent Pendant so appealing is its simplicity. It requires no electricity, batteries, or complicated setup. Its beautiful ceramic pendant, situated inside a delicate locket, absorbs and gently releases the essential oil, allowing the scent to diffuse naturally into the surrounding air.

And with no vehicle power available, that was especially convenient!

I placed it on my review mirror while we were parked and waiting for assistance. Soon, the gentle floral and earthy aroma of Peaceful, Easy Feeling filled our little space.

The blend of bergamot, orange, ylang ylang, frankincense, and lemongrass is a lovely, calming fragrance. It created a more pleasant atmosphere during a very frustrating afternoon.

The experience also reminded me that fragrance can play an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere, even when circumstances don’t go as expected.

The Aromatherapy Scent Pendant is meant for travel and small spaces, so we were able to keep it diffusing for the remainder of our drive. And trust me, we needed that calming scent after our delay!

Back on the Road—and a Delicious Detour

Once we reached Dexter, the mechanic and his team inspected my SUV. Thankfully, they found no apparent permanent damage, although we'll have our own mechanic check everything before the insurance claim is finalized.

By approximately 4:00 p.m., we were finally back on the road!

Our next stop was an unexpected treat: Lambert's Café in Sikeston, Missouri, famous as the "Home of Throwed Rolls."

If you've never experienced Lambert's, you're missing out on some delicious country cooking and a whole lot of fun. Imagine sitting at your table while someone tosses freshly baked yeast rolls across the restaurant for you to catch!

Along with hearty dishes like pork chops and chicken pot pie, they serve their famous "pass arounds," including fried okra, fried potatoes and onions, and other Southern favorites.

Two of us had been there before, but our California friend hadn't, so naturally we had to introduce her to the experience. We laughed, ate far too much, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

And just like that, our unfortunate morning was becoming another memorable chapter in our friendship.

Bringing a Familiar Fragrance to Our Home Away from Home

When we finally arrived at our vacation rental in Paducah, one of the first things I did was move my Scent Pendant from the car to the bathroom.

There's something especially welcoming about bringing a favorite fragrance into an unfamiliar space. Whether it's a vacation rental, guest room, or cozy corner at home, a familiar scent can make the surroundings feel more inviting.

No outlet to find. No cords to untangle. No batteries to replace.

Just a decorative little diffuser releasing a lovely fragrance while four longtime friends settled in for a few days of laughter, sightseeing, and catching up.

Quilt artwork inspired by the September 11 memorial, featuring two tall rectangular panels representing the Twin Towers. The towers are composed of hundreds of colorful fabric squares and set against a blue background with white stars and flowing patriotic patterns. A red, white, and blue border frames the quilt, creating a tribute to remembrance, resilience, and national unity.

A Visit to Paducah's National Quilt Museum

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the National Quilt Museum.

As a quilter myself, I was absolutely amazed by the talent on display. Some of these quilts are so intricate and beautifully designed that you'd swear you were looking at paintings!

One particularly moving quilt was a tribute to the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Its artist, Claire Gardner, incorporated meaningful symbolism throughout the design, including nine shades of blue representing the ninth month and the journey from darkness toward hope.

The twin towers were represented by the number eleven, while thousands of individual fabric pieces honored the lives lost that day.

It was a powerful reminder that quilting is much more than a craft. It can preserve history, express emotion, and tell stories that words alone cannot.

If you ever visit Paducah, I highly recommend making time for this remarkable museum.

The Best Adventures Aren't Always the Ones We Planned

Looking back, our Paducah getaway certainly didn't begin the way we'd imagined. But after 52 years of friendship, we've learned that the unexpected moments often become the stories we remember most.

We made it safely, enjoyed wonderful food, admired incredible artistry, and spent precious time together.

And I discovered another reason to appreciate my Aromatherapy Scent Pendant. It's not just a beautiful decorative accessory for home. Its portable design makes it a lovely addition to a car, vacation rental, guest room, office, or other small space.

Sometimes the simplest things make an experience more enjoyable.

Retailer Takeaways: Selling the Experience, Not Just the Product

The Aromatherapy Scent Pendant offers retailers an opportunity to sell more than fragrance. It offers convenience, decorative appeal, portability, and a simple way to personalize small spaces.

1. Demonstrate the Simplicity of the Scent Pendant

Show shoppers how easy it is to drip the essential oil into the ceramic charm.

Emphasize the benefits:

  • No electricity, batteries, or cords required.
  • Simple setup with no complicated controls.
  • Attractive lotus charm that doubles as décor.
  • Ideal for a variety of small spaces.
  • Easy to pack for travel and use at your destination.

Retailer tip: Keep a demonstration unit displayed where shoppers can see the locket and essential oil together. A simple sign reading "Simple Fragrance. Beautiful Style." immediately communicates the product's biggest advantage.

2. Merchandise It as a Travel Essential

Most shoppers associate fragrance diffusers with their homes. Help them discover the travel possibilities!

Create a display featuring the Scent Pendant alongside travel accessories, journals, weekend bags, or road trip essentials. The compact design makes it easy to enjoy a favorite fragrance while traveling or settling into a temporary space away from home.

3. Present the Full Scent Pendant Collection

Let your customers choose their favorite fragrance from the collection. The Aromatherapy Scent Pendant collection can include:

·       Lavender Aromatherapy Scent Pendant

·       Peppermint Aromatherapy Scent Pendant

·       Sweet Orange Scent Pendant Refill

·       And the entire collection of Belle Aroma Essential Oils

Because the Scent Pendant can be used with Belle Aroma® Essential Oils, retailers have an excellent opportunity to encourage repeat purchases. Help customers explore different fragrances for different moods, seasons, and spaces while introducing them to the broader essential oil collection.

4. Make It a Gift-Giving Opportunity

The Aromatherapy Scent Pendant’s decorative design makes it an appealing gift for:

  • Travelers and vacation home owners.
  • Hostesses and housewarming celebrations.
  • Friends, coworkers, and teachers.
  • Anyone who enjoys fragrance in small spaces.

Retailer tip: Display a complete diffuser-and-fragrance pairing in an attractive gift arrangement with a sign reading "A Little Peaceful, Easy Feeling Makes a Lovely Gift."

5. Use the Story to Create an Emotional Connection

Customers may forget technical features, but they remember stories.

Share how a familiar fragrance helped create a welcoming atmosphere during a memorable trip with longtime friends.

Then connect that experience to the customer's life:

"Imagine having your favorite fragrance waiting when you arrive at your vacation rental—or welcoming you home after a long day."

That simple connection helps shoppers picture themselves using the product, making a purchase more compelling.

6. Close the Sale with a Simple Question

Instead of asking, "Would you like to buy a diffuser?" try:

"Which of our essential oil fragrances best fits the atmosphere you’d like to create?"

Once the customer identifies a place, demonstrate the Scent Pendant and help them select a fragrance.

The Retailer Opportunity

The Scent Pendant isn't simply another diffuser to place on a shelf. It's a decorative, easy-to-use fragrance solution with multiple selling opportunities.

Lead with the simplicity. Demonstrate the versatility. Show shoppers how the Scent Pendant fits naturally into everyday life. Then invite them to choose a fragrance that makes the experience their own.

When customers can picture exactly where and how they'll enjoy a product, they're one step closer to taking it home.
